We took a few days last week for a little spring trip to Washington, D.C., and it was the perfect place to enjoy beautiful scenery and great restaurants with a baby in tow!

We stayed in this AirBnB that was only 2 blocks from the Capitol Building and the National Mall – it was perfect! It’s an English basement in one of the historic row houses, and the little neighborhood was really cute. So many people walking around with strollers and children! We will definitely be back to stay in the same spot – highly recommended! (If you’re a new parent, I can’t stress enough how much easier it is to stay in an Airbnb vs. a hotel room when you’re traveling – access to a full kitchen, extra space, etc. is a must for me!)
We did drive because we wanted to have our car for ease of getting around with Whit – parking was not an issue! There are garages everywhere and a surprising amount of street parking. I had been to D.C. twice before this trip, but it had been a while and it was such a treat to explore the city as a family!
We ventured over to the area around the Nationals baseball stadium for dinner the first night and ate at The Salt Line which was great! There is a really beautiful outdoor area along the river that would be so nice to enjoy in warmer weather.
We did a Capitol Building tour our first morning, which is totally doable with a stroller – you actually kind of get VIP treatment and get to ride the elevators – lol! We went back to the Airbnb for lunch, and then enjoyed a meeting with one of our North Carolina congressmen.

If you’re traveling with a stroller, you must get one of these phone mounts from Amazon! It makes taking family photos with self timer such a breeze by turning your stroller into a tripod – you can set up the shot, and you don’t have to give your phone to a stranger! Also – our new Zoe travel stroller totally saved the day on this trip! We often popped into dinner while we were out walking around, and it is so easy to fold up and slide next to your table while your baby is in a high chair.
We drove over to The Wharf area for dinner that night – so many restaurants and shops right along the water! It was pretty cold and windy, so we quickly shuffled into Kinfolk for dinner, but it would be so lovely to spend outdoor time there as well.
The next day, we walked the blocks around the White House, went over to the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms, and visited several of the monuments along the mall. It was a lot of walking, but also a lot of fun! We did Founding Farmers for dinner which came highly recommended, and did not disappoint!
Before we left, we did one last stroll around the Capitol grounds because everything was so beautiful with the tulips and flowers blooming! 3 nights was the perfect amount of time to see everything, in my opinion, and everywhere we went was so family friendly and welcoming to children!
